Moving the Brazilian ischaemic stroke pathway to a value-based care: introduction of a risk-adjusted cost estimate model for stroke treatment. Health Policy and Planning, 37(9), pp.1098-1106
Highlights:
This study is the first to introduce a risk-adjusted cost estimate model for the stroke care pathway—incorporating measures of patient’s clinical condition at arrival, technologies used to treat patients and main clinical outcomes at discharge. Additionally, the analysis presents national-level cost results from a multicentre study elaborating the largest real-world data sample of Brazilian stroke patients treated with varying therapies.
The model introduced illustrates the redesigning of a fee-for-service model to a value-based in-hospital reimbursement strategy for the stroke care.
